What to Wear to teamLab Planets: Water, Mirrors & Lockers
The building looks ordinary from the road. Inside, you will be barefoot in moving water with mirrors underfoot, so what you wear decides whether the visit is comfortable. This guide covers clothing, lockers and what to leave behind.

Barefoot is the rule
Water areas are entered without footwear. You take off shoes, socks and tights in the locker area before you go in, so choose socks and shoes that come off quickly. Slip-on footwear saves time when others are waiting behind you.
The route is not only water: there are different surfaces and stretches of walking between works. Leave footwear in the designated storage rather than expecting to put it back on between rooms. If any surface or barefoot section is unsuitable for you, ask staff about the route and available alternatives.
Trousers, skirts and mirrors
The water can reach an adult's knees in places. Trousers that roll above the knee or shorts are far easier than long, wide legs that soak through. Rolling is possible, but a wet hem is miserable for hours afterwards.
Several areas have mirrored floors. A skirt or a dress with a wide, loose hem can be reflected upward, which many visitors find uncomfortable. Wear shorts or fitted leggings under it, or choose trousers. Free rental shorts exist through staff, which is a useful fallback, but it is not a plan; bring something suitable.
Lockers and what to carry
Free lockers are small: 23 cm wide, 34 cm deep and 37 cm high. Check the packed dimensions of a daypack rather than assuming it will fit, and leave suitcases elsewhere. Larger bags can be secured in the designated outside storage area at your own responsibility, so avoid valuables there.
Leave suitcases at the hotel or at a proper luggage facility. The venue does not offer a staffed luggage check or suitcase-size lockers. There is no re-entry once you leave, so pack your entry code, ID and anything you need before going in.
Drying off and a change of clothes
Towels are provided after the water areas, but a towel does not replace dry clothing. Bring a spare top and bottoms for children, and consider a small dry bag for your phone and a lightweight pair of dry socks.
The water is not a swimming pool. Do not wear swimwear as your only layer; wear ordinary comfortable clothing that handles damp and dries reasonably quickly.
Children and sensitive visitors
Strollers cannot enter and stay in the designated storage area. Official guidance is one adult per three children, including free entrants, and children's hands should be held in dark and water areas.
If you have concerns about flashing light, darkness or confined spaces, tell staff; detours can be arranged. This guide gives no medical advice. When you are ready to choose a ticket, see our teamLab Planets tickets guide.
A short packing checklist
Wear: comfortable layers, shorts or trousers that roll above the knee, socks and slip-on shoes. Carry: your entry code, a phone, a card and any medication, all in a pocket or small bag that fits a 23 by 34 by 37 cm locker. Leave at the hotel: suitcases, large rucksacks and anything fragile.
For a child, add a full spare outfit, dry socks and a bag for wet clothes. If you wear contact lenses or need glasses, plan how you will keep them safe while wading. Photography for personal use is a matter of current staff guidance and signage, and commercial filming needs prior consent, so do not block others.
